Balancing Act

The Los Angeles convention isn't until August, but for Democrats it's already a major headache. Fund-raising is lagging far behind schedule. The host committee is squabbling and the Hollywood celebs helping to underwrite the event are scrambling for face time. Perhaps trickiest: balancing a significant role for First Lady and Senate candidate Hillary Clinton with prominent display for the two home-state women senators, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. Still to be decided: where to fit in California's Democratic Gov. Gray Davis.
